Wynn Fendig, Republican candidate for county
commissioner from District 3, received the endorsement of the directors of
the Amelia Island Association (AIA) for the primary election on August 26,
2008 to the Board of County Commissioners for Nassau County. Because there
are only Republican candidates for commissioner from District 3, the winner
of the Republican Party primary on August 26 will be the new Commissioner.
All citizens are eligible to vote in this primary contest.
The Amelia Island Association, a non-partisan organization
comprising a membership in Eastern Nassau County, is dedicated to policies
and political leadership that represent good government and smart growth. In
reaching its decision to back Mr. Fendig, the AIA directors interviewed Ms.
Stacy Johnson and Mr. Fendig against a list of standard topics and found him
to be extremely well suited for the job of County Commissioner.
Mr. Fendig’s background includes particularly notable
service for the past 2 years as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board
where his decisions, in the opinion of the AIA Directors , have been
transparent, in the broader interest of the community, and often in the
minority. Mr. Fendig is currently employed as Operations Manager of the
White Oak Plantation. The AIA leadership was impressed with Mr.Fendig’s
knowledge of county land use policy, his understanding of the Comprehensive
Plan and related ordinances, and his reputation for independence and
personal integrity.
AIA will be considering its endorsements of the November
general election candidates in October.
